What does citrine mean?
Citrine is known as a stone of abundance and opportunity, sometimes called the Merchant’s Stone. It’s also linked with optimism and joy, and said to carry the energy of the sun. Many people wear it as a reminder of a goal or a fresh start.
Before modern gemology its tawny colour got it mixed up with topaz, and the two now share November as birthstones. Older lore held that citrine could soothe tempers and calm the wearer.
Which zodiac sign is citrine for?
In Astrolith readings it is paired with Gemini. In a reading it can stand for a Sun, Moon or Rising sign in Gemini, and it brings its themes of abundance and opportunity into the design.
How do you choose citrine?
Citrine runs from pale yellow to brownish orange, coloured by a trace of iron. The finest is a saturated yellow to reddish orange, with no brownish tint.
Natural citrine is rare. Most citrine on the market is heated amethyst: heat turns some pale violet amethyst yellow, and the starting shade decides how rich the yellow becomes. Ask us about any citrine bead and we’ll tell you what our supplier states about its colour. We offer it in golden yellow, lemon yellow and pale yellow, and as cube and point beads.
How do you care for citrine?
At 7 on the hardness scale, and fairly tough, it’s fine to wear every day, though it can still scratch. Keep it away from heat and steam cleaners, as a sudden change in temperature can crack it. Long spells in strong light can fade some citrine, so store it out of the sun. Warm, soapy water is all the cleaning it needs.
